Re-roof Project in Bolton using Marley Modern Tiles
- Before stripping roof of old broken tiles -
- After stripping of old felt and battens -
This semi-detached home in Bolton is around 45 years. The roof before showed signs of deterioration, with cracked and missing tiles, and also the previous ridge system was failing and required urgent attention as big segments of cement was missing. The Great British winter season has a big part in the wear and tear process of the traditional mortar ridge system. Once the cement erodes, water fills the gaps, and when temperatures plummets the water freezes, causing expansions in the gaps, making the cracks bigger over time. In many cases vegetation grows within the cracks; mainly from birds and the surrounding environment.
The battens and felt were replaced with new fresh ones. The tiles were replaced with new Marley Modern concrete interlocking tiles. The new ridge system uses red capped ridges. This type of ridge system is a form of “dry ridge” system as it does not require cement to close the gaps between each tile. One of the big benefits of this type of method is that it requires less maintenance over traditional methods as it very weather resistant.
